My aim is to list locations of Memorial Inscription surveys in churchyards as I feel Municipal cemeteries are well-indexed. The ABOUT page will tell you the background to this website.
I am rather hoping that folk will contact me if they know of a Memorial Inscription website or, better still, a church which has a churchyard survey on display or tucked away somewhere.
If you find or run a website with a churchyard survey please send the URL via the contact page and I will add it to the list. Feel free to add a few details. Let me know if you would like to be credited.
The most valuable aspect of this site will be the listings of previously unknown churchyard surveys which can only be found by physically going to a given church.
Generally speaking, web surfers will be able to find online surveys with Google. I feel strongly that the effort local researchers have put into collecting MIs in their local churchyards should be more widely celebrated. Moreover, I suspect that such local surveys are not always stored anywhere other than in homes and churches dotted around the country. Surely they should be in record offices, with family history societies and so on.
Do let me have your views. One day I may start an online forum. For now, please use the Blog.
