I have been busy since my last post, mapping the churchyard and reading the inscriptions. My database is filling up and I am at a good point in the project. Much now depends upon the weather. Some summer days were simply too hot to go and survey. Now we are in September, I fear good days could be limited.

Elton Churchyard 2
In 1993 a survey was done of Elton churchyard by a student whose first name was Rebecca. In these days of GDPR I hesitate to put her second name. She was student at what was then Peterborough Regional College.
I have seen the survey as a copy is held at Huntingdon Records Office. Unfortunately the ring binding holes have obscured some of the data and I suspect that what were double page spreads have been bound as single A4 sheets.
I believe Rebecca recorded the monumental inscriptions but only a small number of recording sheets are included, as examples.
I should very much like to get in touch with Rebecca but she has either moved away or emigrated. I cannot find a marriage in England with her name so either she has not married or has done so in another country. She would be about 47 now.
Today I have tried to redraw the churchyard using the measurements I took on my first visit. Rebecca drew a good map but paced out the distances and I found that the headstones were not quite correctly placed, although they were roughly correct. I need to return.
Elton
This year I have taken on the task of recording the MIs at Elton in Cambridgeshire. It is a huge task. Ultimately the results will be lodged with the Peterborough Family History Society and a copy presented to the church.
I have visited before and taken photos of the newer section of the churchyard but, today, I started on the old section from the very East. I have located a plot map so the first task is to check and revise it. As you can imagine, a lot have changed in the years (more than 22) since it was surveyed. Erosion has caused the usual problem of illegible monuments.
February 2022 Update
Navigation slight changed.
Peterborough page now has links to a map and spreadsheet.
URL checking continues
I expect to finish checking all the URLS for MIs later in February. The internet changes rapidly: sites come and go or hosts change as people shift their content elsewhere.
Checking URLs
I have started to check the links in the MI spreadsheet as some have been found not to work. This will take a while. A few new websites have been added.
December
I break up from school in about a week so I am hoping to do a little more with this website.
So far this year
I have been busy uploading photographs of Kings Cliffe and Cranford to Find a Grave. I juts popped in here to show that this site is still maintained.
I popped in again on 10th April. No comments, so away I go again!
Recent projects
During 2019 I photographed and indexed the whole of Whittlesey cemetery (old section) and I hope to do the newer section in 2020. I have also done a lot of work at Doddington: I have ancestors (i.e. people who feature somewhere on my family tree) in both those cemeteries.
I took so many photographs in 2019 I shall still be indexing them for some some time. I need to add some from Kings Cliffe, Ufford and Kings Sutton. Where else will my camera take me in 2020 I wonder?
Stoke Albany
I went over to Stoke Albany on Saturday to find two CWGC memorials. One was overgrown so I asked if I could return and clear it. “Go for it” was the reply. I am now waiting for the weather to improve.
